Field Engineering Testing

The in-situ testing of soil, rock and construction materials is an invaluable tool used to inform the design of a wide range of construction applications, to assess the extent of or potential for movement in exisiting structures, and further to provide a method of quality control/assurance of construction materials and earthworks.

In-situ engineering testing can be undertaken to provide data in isolation or in conjunction with laboratory testing and intrusive fieldwork investigations.

Applications of in-situ testing include the design of foundations and pavements through test methods such as Penetration Testing, Plate Bearing testing and in-situ CBR. Fluid flow measurement and soakaway design through Permeability Testing. Soil behaviour in relation to consolidation and slip can be assessed by monitoring of inclinometer installations and trial embankment and surcharge monitoring. Assessment of groundwater, ground gas regime, and concentrations of volatile vapours can be informed by the installation and monitoring of standpipes and piezometers.

CC Geotechnical Ltd have extensive knowledge and understanding of a comprehensive range of In-situ testing, applying techniques such as:

Dynamic Cone Penetrometer Testing
  • Dynamic Cone Penetration
  • Static Cone Penetraton
  • TRL Cone Penetration
  • Plate Bearing Tests
  • In-situ CBR
  • Borehole and Hand Vane Testing
  • Ground Penetrating Radar
  • Density Testing
  • Packer Testing
  • Constant and Variable Head Permeability Testing
  • Soakaway Testing
  • Redox Potential Testing
  • Resistivity Testing Trial Embankment and Surcharge Monitoring
  • Pile Load Testing
  • Inclinometer Monitoring
  • Gas and Groundwater Monitoring
  • Volatile Organics Monitoring
  • Radiation Monitoring
